About the Central Library
The Central Library was established at Basra University in October 1964, when studying at the university began, as it started with a simple beginning, and the publications it contained during the year 1964-1965 reached (4360) prints (books, magazines, newspapers). Its publications increased and developed rapidly over the years until the year 2021 contained nearly a million cultural vessels, including specialized scientific periodicals, bulletins, daily newspapers, books, letters, theses, CDs, and electronic books.
Library Message
The General Secretariat of the Central Library seeks to provide the best services to the beneficiaries to keep abreast of developments, especially in the electronic aspect (electronic service), by completing many scientific projects in order to achieve this, including:
1.The creation of the electronic index unit, through which the service of searching for information sources is provided in an easy way.
2. Achievement of the periodicals electronic scouts.
3.The creation of the electronic lending unit, as the loaned book information, the loan period and the name of the borrower are entered into the program.
4. Accomplishing the comprehensive index of dissertations and dissertations in Iraqi universities until 2013.

Library Vision
The General Secretariat of the Central Library aspires to strengthen the frameworks for cultural cooperation between the various scientific and cultural institutions inside and outside the country and through various available means, including the exchange and gifting of paper and electronic information sources, exchange of experiences, courses and activities, and access to the latest developments in the world in the field of information and libraries and the development witnessed in this the field.
Library Objectives
The Central Library aims to serve the programs and policies of higher education and scientific research and seeks to advance society scientifically and culturally and to carry out the tasks entrusted to it through:
1. Supporting the school curricula with the information it provides
2. Providing modern and varied information resources to serve all beneficiaries of the various departments, colleges and centers of Basra University.
3. Activating the benefit from the library's resources and services and the information provided by the library by introducing it and facilitating access to it.
4. Providing information in various fields of knowledge through bulletins, abstracts and bibliographies.
5- 5. The library is interested in providing electronic information sources service, such as thesis, university dissertations, electronic books, scientific and cultural periodicals, and on magnetic disks.
Library Tasks
For the purpose of improving the provision of office services through its various means, the library adopts the following procedures to achieve the aspirations of this institution:
1. Training and counseling the beneficiaries on how to benefit from the information sources and services available therein, by preparing appropriate programs for counseling and training.
2. Organizing training courses in the field of libraries and information within the framework of continuing education programs at the university.
3. Cooperating and coordinating with libraries, information centers and other relevant institutions inside and outside Iraq in order to achieve mutual benefits in office procedures and services.
4. Holding general and specialized book fairs and participating in exhibitions held by other bodies.
5. Scientifically organizing and storing the sources of information to ensure rapid, accurate and easy access to them by the beneficiaries and in a manner that ensures their safety and preservation.
Central Library opening times
The library is open from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm daily, while external borrowing for resources takes place from 9 am to 1:30 pm
