Basra University organizes an emergency scientific workshop to combat hemorrhagic fever

An emergency workshop was held at the University of Basrah this day for the university team to investigate and monitor cases of hemorrhagic fever in humans and animals. The team was headed by the respected President of the University Saad Shaheen Hammadi and college members from the College of Medicine and the College of Veterinary Medicine also discussed methods and ways to prevent the transmission of infection, combat the spread of the disease, and complete research to limit its risk, as well as the formation of a committee for the purpose of implementing procedures and follow-up. Prof. Dr. Munther Al-Kadhimi from the United Kingdom joined the meeting electronically. Prof. Dr. Basil Abdel-Zahra Abbas and Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Munther Muhammad Salih, both from the College of Veterinary Medicine, were assigned as administrative rapporteurs for the committee. Prof. Dr. Munther Al-Kadhimi from the United Kingdom was also chosen as scientific rapporteur and team members presented all that has been accomplished from the planned research ,The workshop also resulted in the approval of the honorable President of the University on the proposal submitted by the College of Veterinary Medicine to establish a joint diseases unit specialized in developing scientific plans in cooperation with the relevant state departments to control and limit the spread of common diseases. It was also approved to establish a bank for viral isolates, as well as to equip a laboratory with a high safety rate to deal with viral isolates. 

The workshop was moderated by Prof. Dr. Rahman Kazem Mohsen, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and one of the members of the university team. At the end of the workshop, the respected President of the University instructed the team to implement the special scientific and administrative procedures as soon as possible. At the end of the session, the team expressed its thanks and appreciation to the College of Arts for hosting the workshop.
