The University of Basra futsal team defeated the Kazakhstan national team at the start of its career in the World Olympiad for Universities, which is hosted by the Federal Republic of Russia, with the participation of universities from 34 countries.

The match took place at the International Universities Stadium in Yekaterinburg, Russia, and the result was 0-6 in favor of the Basra University team. Boxer Yahya Hisham also defeated a Kazakh boxer with a weight of 67 kg in the first round of the tournament.

It is noteworthy that earlier the activities of the Summer University Games 2023 were launched with the participation of most universities in the world, including the University of Basra, which represented Iraq in the tournament and included 14 types of different sports, and Iraq participated in six types, including futsal, basketball, badminton, boxing, taekwondo and judo.
