With confident steps and exceptional efforts, members of the General Secretariat of the Central Library at the University of Basra have begun the first steps towards archiving peer-reviewed periodicals and scientific and intellectual productions and transforming Basra’s heritage into electronic systems to make them available for use by everyone.This statement came from the Secretary-General of the Library, Dr. Iman Shamkhi Jaber, saying, “In cooperation with the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs of the General Secretariat of the Holy Abbasid Shrine, we have begun a project to preserve scientific and cultural production and transform the heritage of Basra and the intellectual heritage present at the University of Basra, as well as all periodicals, into digital systems, including Al-Basra newspaper published in 1889 AD, and all library resources are transferred to the electronic system.For his part, the head of the Intellectual Affairs Department at the Shrine, Mr. Hassanein Al-Musawi, said, “Our joint efforts with the Central Library will result in photographing and preserving the sources digitally on long-term storage means, and that the indexing process will be carried out in accordance with the latest systems for indexes, after which all materials will be uploaded to the Iraqi Portal website.” of knowledge and making it available to all researchers and academics to benefit from it in their research, especially since the portal has developed a new system that combines the archives of libraries and museums,The portal's website also makes it easy to search for the required information and makes it available to everyone for free
