The College of Arts, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Central Library, organized a symposium on the occasion of the International Children's Day entitled "The Child is the Focus of the Future: His Rights and the Development of His Skills." The symposium, in which Dr. Raghad Faisal, Dr. Ara Jassim, and Dr. Zainab Jassim from the College of Arts participated, aimed to focus on the rights of children in Arab and Islamic society and to develop their future skills within more conservative frameworks amidst the various future trends that do not serve the interests of childhood and distort its dimensions. The symposium included discussing the rights of the child in the United Nations Charter and in Islam in terms of choosing a mother, a beautiful name, being a legitimate child, the right to breastfeed, life, equality in dealing with his siblings, the right to education, and other rights imposed by Islam for the child. The symposium also touched on the negative impact and incorrect use of technology, electronic devices, and social networking sites on the child’s mentality, thinking, and his impulse towards behaviors that are not appropriate for his age.
