University of Basra organizes a symposium on domestic violence and its negative effects on society

The General Secretariat of the Central Library, in cooperation with the Community Police Department in Basra, organized an awareness seminar on domestic violence and its negative effects on society, in implementation of the paragraphs of the United Nations program related to reducing gender gaps and empowering women. The seminar, delivered by Lieutenant Colonel Muntadher Kazim Nema, aimed to raise awareness and educate the academic community about the seriousness of the growing phenomenon of domestic violence in society and to work on finding radical solutions to it, starting with the spouses or parents and ending with children and relatives. The seminar included an explanation of the concept of building a healthy family based on obtaining the rights of its parties in a fair manner and defining the forms of violence practiced by adults on those under their care or guardianship, with an explanation of resources from paragraphs of the Iraqi Penal Code that criminalize and condemn acts within the crime of assault or psychological coercion and intentional physical harm.
