The Secretariat of the Central Library at the University of Basra, in cooperation with the College of Arts, organized a seminar on the role of educational institutions in confronting phenomena alien to society. The seminar aimed to clarify the alien phenomena in Iraqi society that emerged after 2003 and their impact on society in general and on the university community in particular, and to propose appropriate solutions and highlight them, as well as the impact of these behaviors on societal values in light of influential external and internal circumstances, whether political, economic, or social, which led to a change in the social values of Iraqi society. The seminar, in which a group of faculty members from the College of Arts participated, included the most prominent alien phenomena, including the phenomenon of electronic blackmail, suicide, the spread of drugs in society, family and moral disintegration, the spread of armed displays, financial and moral corruption, and forged certificates.
