The University of Basra organized a workshop on organizing information resources in descriptive cataloging.

The Central Library at the University of Basra, in cooperation with the College of Arts, organized a workshop on organizing information resources in descriptive cataloging in libraries.

The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of card cataloging, whether traditional or electronic, according to RDA, for books and institutions, and to facilitate its use for human resources. It also emphasized the importance of map cataloging in libraries and information centers to enhance the skills of human resources working in the field of cataloging.

The workshop, presented by Dr. Amal Abdul Rahman Abdul Wahid and Instructor Tariq Taha Aboud, covered how to prepare various map cataloging cards, including the main entry, general identification, parallel and secondary titles, map issuer information, cataloging data, notes, follow-up, and card dimensions. It also introduced the MARC 21 standard and its main fields, and trained human resources on how to create a comprehensive record, including tags, indicators, and subfields.
