The General Secretariat of the Central Library at the University of Basra organized a discussion session on how to meet the needs of children with disabilities in libraries and ways to deal with them in support of sustainable development plans and the Convention on the Rights of the Child signed by member states of the United Nations in 1989. The session, presented by Dr. Rafeef Abdul Hafeez Al-Riyahi, addressed training library workers on how to enable children with disabilities to access knowledge sources, devices and services designated for the blind, how to enhance their independence and self-confidence to facilitate their reintegration into human communities, and how to make the library environment a comprehensive developmental environment that seeks equality among different segments of society.
