University of Basra organizes a seminar on mechanisms of psychological support in dealing with anxiety and depression.

The Central Library at the University of Basra, in cooperation with the College of Education for Human Sciences and the Women's Affairs Division, organized an educational seminar entitled "Mechanisms of Psychological Support in Addressing Anxiety and Depression Among Youth." The seminar aimed to clarify the causes of anxiety and depression and mechanisms for self-support to overcome this condition. The seminar, presented by Dr. Batoul Ghaleb Al-Nahi, included an introduction to the concepts of anxiety and depression, their differences, and the reasons that lead to the emergence of these symptoms, thus creating a state of anxiety characterized by negative thinking. This, in turn, affects the individual's emotional state, which then impacts their blood chemistry and physiological condition. A self-treatment program was discussed, which included restructuring negative thoughts and the mechanisms used to change these thoughts. Practicing these mechanisms will lead to an improvement in the emotional and physiological state resulting from anxiety and depression. Institutional support mechanisms for addressing anxiety and depression for students and employees were also presented. These mechanisms include providing a university psychological counselor to help students alleviate exam stress, as well as organizing workshops to teach students how to manage their time and provide employees with time for rest.
