The University of Basra continues to strengthen its academic and research standing among Arab universities, after being re-entered into the QS Arab Region University Rankings 2026, issued by the QS World University Rankings. This year's ranking saw the participation of 36 Iraqi universities out of 296 Arab universities listed, with the University of Basra ranking sixth in Iraq and 77th in the Arab world, confirming its distinguished progress in the fields of scientific research, quality education, and academic openness. The President of the University of Basra, Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi, emphasized that this achievement reflects the great efforts made by the university to develop its educational and research environment, its commitment to applying international quality standards, and strengthening international academic partnerships. Al-Asadi indicated that the university's continued progress in regional and international rankings is thanks to the support of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the dedication of the university's professors and researchers in serving science and society. It is worth noting that the QS ranking is one of the most prominent international rankings and is based on criteria that include academic reputation, scientific research, the ratio of professors to students, international openness, and employment after graduation.
