The Central Library at the University of Basra, in cooperation with the Student Activities Department, organized a workshop entitled "Genetic Engineering in the Balance of Religion and Society and its Impact on Sports Fairness." The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of genetic engineering as a significant scientific advancement, explaining its various dimensions from therapeutic, religious, social, and sporting perspectives, and raising awareness of its risks. The workshop, presented by Dr. Imad Faraj Badrawi, included a comprehensive overview of the concept of genes and their role in the development of modern sciences, with a focus on the applications of genetic engineering in the therapeutic field. The workshop also discussed the religious and ethical aspects related to this field and its impact on the social structure, in addition to the effect of genetic modifications on mental and physical health, the issue of sports fairness, and the possibility of its violation as a result of genetic manipulation.
